Punjab health minister Balbir Singh Sidhu has ordered the suspension of two doctors almost after six weeks of a woman who gave birth on the floor of the Moga civil hospital and the baby died six days later.
Gynaecologist Dr Manisha Gupta and paediatrician Dr Ashish Aggarwal are suspended after Amandeep Kaur of Baje Ke village in Moga delivered a baby on the floor of the maternity ward in the Moga Civil Hospital on 9th January. The orders of suspension came into action as the woman’s family met the health minister in Moga on Saturday. The baby had developed several problems and died on 15th January at Guru Gobind Singh Medical College and Hospital in Faridkot during the treatment.
During his visit to Moga, Sidhu laid the foundation stone of 50-bed Ayurvedic, yoga and naturopathy, unani, siddha and homeopathy (Ayush) Hospital at village Duneke which is near Moga. He further said that the hospital would be set up at a cost of Rs 9 crore and made functional within 15 months.
Moga MLA Harjot Kamal said that the Moga Ayush hospital will be the second hospital in Punjab as the first hospital was opened at Mohali. Also, a trauma center would be set up on the seven-kanal land, next to the Ayush Hospital.
